Sunscape supports FSA25 Peru: solar power and hands-on training for the communities of Huyro
Sunscape supported FSA25 Peru, the 25th edition of Technical Solidarity's Field Study Abroad: two students funded, technical support on photovoltaics and a solar system built in the community of Huyro.
Italian version
An international mission in rural Peru
From July 26 to August 11, 2026, 26 students and PhD candidates from around the world worked in the Huyro Living Lab, in the Huayopata valley, Peru. It was the 25th edition of the Field Study Abroad (FSA), the international program organized by Technical Solidarity together with the Grand Challenges Scholars Program (GCSP) of Sapienza University of Rome, the SEED Center of the Technical University of Munich and the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú.
Following a learning-by-doing approach, participants worked on concrete projects in renewable energy, rural electrification, solar mini-grids and sustainable development, in direct contact with local communities.
Sunscape's contribution
Sunscape funded the participation of two students from the operational team, directly supporting those who brought their skills and commitment to the field. We also made our experience in the design and sizing of photovoltaic systems available to the project, acting as a technical reference for the team working on the different local energy solutions.
The results: a photovoltaic system for Madre Terra
Among the mission's outcomes is a photovoltaic system installed at Madre Terra, a family-run tea producer. It is complemented by two active smart meters, enabling real-time monitoring of generation, consumption and costs.
An intervention that left a positive, lasting impact on the community of Huyro, showing how renewable energy can become a practical tool for local development.
The energy transition runs through here too
At Sunscape we believe the energy transition does not stop at the most developed markets: it also runs through the most vulnerable communities, the young professionals who put themselves to the test in the field, and the technologies that truly change people's lives. That is why we chose to stand alongside Technical Solidarity and those who build a fairer, more sustainable future every day.
Thanks to those who made the mission possible
We thank Technical Solidarity and all the partners for involving us in FSA25 Peru. We hope to be there for the next mission too.
